Since July 1, 2025, Florida DEP’s Onsite Sewage Program, not the county health department, issues septic permits in Marion County. Building permits still come from Marion County Building Safety, and a building permit for a home that needs a septic system cannot issue without the DEP septic construction permit (s. 381.0065(4), Fla.
