What Florida Septic Works is

Florida Septic Works connects Ocala and Marion County homeowners with independent local septic companies for free, no-obligation quotes. Florida Septic Works is a referral service, not a septic tank contractor; the work is done by independent DEP-registered septic tank contractors, who quote, contract and do the job.

You tell us about the job through the free quote form or by phone: your town, what you are seeing and anything you know about the tank. We usually reply the same day, and an independent local company that handles that kind of work follows up. Getting a quote costs nothing, and you are under no obligation to hire anyone.

What Florida Septic Works is not

  • It does not pump, clean, install, repair or inspect septic systems.
  • It does not set prices, bid on jobs or stand behind any company's work. The company you hire gives you its own quote and terms.
  • It is not a government office and cannot issue permits or pull records.

Florida Septic Works is an independent referral service. It is not a septic tank contractor, is not affiliated with DEP or Marion County, and is not affiliated with any septic company of a similar name.

What to ask any septic company

Whoever you hire, through this site or not, these checks take a few minutes:

  • DEP septic tank contractor registration number. Florida requires it for anyone who contracts or advertises septic pumping, repair, installation or maintenance. Check it on the active-contractor search linked from DEP's registration page.
  • Septage disposal service permit number on the truck. Rule 62-6.010(3) requires it on the service truck in letters at least 3 inches tall; magnetic signs do not count.
  • Proof of insurance. Ask for a current certificate before work starts.
  • A written quote. It should say what is included, such as pumping every chamber, and whether a DEP permit is needed.
  • A plumbing contractor for sewer hookups. Connecting a house to sewer is plumbing-contractor work under s. 489.105(3)(m).

Why septic in Marion County is different now

DEP issues the permits. Since July 1, 2025, Florida DEP's Onsite Sewage Program has permitted septic systems in Marion County instead of the county health department. Applications go through osp.floridadep.gov.

The springs rules. Silver Springs and Rainbow Springs are Outstanding Florida Springs, and the 2025 BMAP puts septic systems at 32% of their nitrogen loading. Under that plan, new systems on any lot size must be nitrogen-reducing (ENR), and an existing system must be upgraded to ENR whenever a DEP repair, modification or replacement permit is needed, unless sewer is planned and funded. Working systems with no permit need do nothing now.

Check your parcel. Most of Marion County is inside the BMAP; confirm your parcel on DEP's map. The ENR requirements guide and the ENR system cost page explain what that means for a repair budget.
